A New Shipment Platform
Global supply chains have experienced unprecedented disruption due to the COVID-19 driven surge in demand for containerized goods, with container freight rates reaching record highs, severe port congestion, reduction in the effective capacity for container logistics, and shippers struggling with shortages of vessel space, containers, warehouse space, intermodal capacity, and labor.
However, at Goodpack we continued to explore most efficient and sustainable shipping options, and having discovered the RoRo shipping opportunity, we have partnered with Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a market leader in RoRo shipping and vehicle logistics, transporting cars, trucks, rolling equipment and breakbulk around the world. The company operates over 130 vessels servicing 16 trade routes to six continents, and a global inland distribution network, processing centers, and marine terminals all over the world.
Goodpack is an innovator in developing safe and cost-efficient transportation and storage solutions for challenging payloads. With a network in 80 countries and over 4 million returnable metal Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC), Goodpack will provide safe, smart, and sustainable packaging solutions and Wallenius Wilhelmsen will provide RoRo shipping service for the cargo packed, scaling from natural and synthetic rubbers to chemicals, EV batteries and auto parts, creating a new integrated and standardized ocean shipping solution, the RoRoCUBE.
Sustainability
The global spotlight has been on ESG sustainability in several industries. The transition to clean energy is being supported by increased efforts from businesses and consumers by reducing emissions. Most industries now consider ESG sustainability to be a core value, and future leading industries, particularly the EV sector, have placed a strong emphasis on it. Sustainable batteries, according to experts in the EV industry, are essential for sustainable transportation.
By 2035, it's expected that six out of ten new cars sold globally will be electric as EV sales continue to grow. The use of batteries will be enormous at that time, and it appears that future industries will strive for zero emissions.
However, it’s difficult to say that the batteries packed into disposable packages are truly ‘sustainable’. Eventually, sustainable packages will be a key to sustainable batteries.
We will continue to create circular supply chains by standardising our packaging solutions for transportation of cathodes, battery packs and cells, thus further reducing the waste accelerating the global need to improve environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
Our partnership with Wallenius Wilhelmsen will first focus on shipping services from South Korea, where, according to SNE research, the nation's top three battery manufacturers comprise of 32% of the global EV battery market as recorded in 2021.
